St Mary's Bells
The tower contains eight bells. Six were cast by Henry Knight of London in 1664, but the fifth was recast in 1849 by Taylors of Loughborough. The bells were rehung, and two additional ones added, in 1962. The small bell on which the clock strikes was cast by C. and G.Mears of London in 1846. The bells were rehung and quarter turned in 1899 at a cost of £72. The cost to rehang and tune them in November 1997 was £16,000!
Our band of bellringers practice every Monday 7.30-9pm. We welcome learners and returning ringers. We ring for services on a Sunday; to celebrate weddings and special occasions both local and national and half muffled for funerals.
We ring at other churches in the district and further afield across the country. For more information please contact bellringers@stmaryskingsclere.co.uk
