Bellringers at St Mary's

There have been bells at St Mary's since 1664 but the art of bellringing goes back much earlier.  It is a uniquely English custom and there are only about 45,000 ringers in the entire world.  Once you are able to ring you will be welcome at any tower in the country.

St Mary's has eight bells with the tenor bell weighing over 13cwt.  However it can be rung without too much effort.

As well as being rung for church services, the bells celebrate weddings, mark local and national events and welcome in the New Year.

You don't have to be musical or particularly strong, just able to count to eight!  Why not come along to a practice night at the bell tower and find out whether it's for you?  The band meets every week apart from Bank Holidays for an hour and a half to practice what we know and to learn new things.

Why not give it a go?  You will be made very welcome!

Practice night - every Monday 7.30 - 9pm
